Storyline

Twenty years after his debut English-language indie drama Hyderabad Blues, critically acclaimed director Nagesh Kukunor has made a film in Telugu. It is a homecoming for a Hyderabadi. But 'Ugurlar Sakhi', his first Telugu film, doesn't have an iota of his brilliant cinematography and screenwriting skills. It's literally a poor effort.

Kukunur perfectly weaved sports dramas like 'Iqbal'. But this purported sports drama lacks a plot or a strong "protagonist" and conflict to speak of. Nor does it have a compelling narrative or entertaining episodes. After watching this boring drama for an hour in the first half, I thought it would turn the tables after the break. He could set us up for some real drama in the third act, I reassured myself. The second part was more daring.

To put it simply, Ugular Sakhi is a movie with no clue. It is surprising to see a brilliant director like Nagesh Kukunoor writing such a sloppy script.

The film is about a lambadi girl Sakhi (Keerthy Suresh) who wins a shooting championship with the help of a coach (Jagapathi Babu). He is from Telangana but settled in Rayalaseema. He is good at playing golis (playing glass balls), but his childhood friend Raju (Aadi Pinishetti) thinks he has no chance. As the coach trains her to become a shooter, she falls in love with him. I'm sure you can guess how this predictable story will end.

He "plays" his role well despite being a clueless character. Jagapathi Babu fits the bill. Aadi Pinishetti tried hard to create a believable act as a stage actor. 'Good luck Sakhi' is too bad. A bad and pointless effort!
