  Analysis

Starring Ashish, nephew of veteran producer Dil Raju, Rowdy Boys is also director Sree Harsha Konuganti's second film. I haven't seen the director's debut film Husharu, but I felt that he started Rowdy Boys with some interesting, stylish moments. The film begins in the style of Mansoor Khan's Josh and the 1961 Hollywood classic West Side Story. In fact, the title sequence of 'Rowdy Boys' was clearly inspired by 'West Side Story'. The first half of the movie deals with the fights between two gangs (Engineering college gang and Medical college gang) and a hilarious love story.

The early part of 'Rowdy Boys' is catchy. The enchanting beauty of Anupama Parameswara and the songs of Devi Sri Prasad grab our attention. But writer-director Sree Harsha Konuganti is finding it difficult to push this drama forward. The confusion is evident in the final part of the film. The 'West Side Story' feel is getting old. Ultimately, it progresses in a typical coming-of-age story. Thus, the initial interest is reduced.

The second half of the film is not convincing at all.

Still, Sree Harsha Konuganti Devi can be credited for producing a different kind of music than Sri Prasad. DSP breaks free from its traditional style and flows with a cheerful theme. The film has nine songs.

Ashish made a confident debut as an actor. He did a neat job for a newcomer. Anupama Parameswara's role is not well etched but she looks charming and beautiful. He shot kissing scenes for the first time. Vikram Saahidev is doing well. Komalee Prasad gets a small role. Maddie's cinematography complements the theme.

  Summary

'Rowdy Boys' starts off well with trendy youth sequences and cheerful music by DSP. But the film deviates from the initial set-up and lacks a convincing story afterwards. However, the film is essentially a release vehicle for Dil Raju's nephew Ashish, who makes a decent debut.
