Malli Modalaindi starring Sumanth, Naina Ganguly and Varshini premiered on 11 February on ZEE5.
There is a saying in Telugu – “Annam Udikindani Cheppataaniki Oka Methuku Chaalu” (One grain of rice is enough to know whether the rice is cooked or not). So I always wonder why these OTT companies buy bad movies after watching them first? Thirty minutes into "Malli Modalaindi" is enough to understand that it is an amateur work. One of the biggest problems I have noticed since the launch of OTT platforms is that some young directors do not work on building scenes. For them, scenes are just filler, a one-line plot is enough, it seems.
'Malli Modalaindi' is about life after divorce or falling in love again after a failed relationship. This would be a fairy tale as divorces and second marriages are quite common these days. But the writing is weak. The film begins with the presentation of the award in 1999. And the presenter is not talking about Andhra Pradesh, but "our Telugu states". You know how bad the writing is when the writers and directors don't know the basics of when the state is divided. This is a small matter. The film has many problems, the first being the silly scenes throughout the film.
For a love story, the director and actors spared no effort to achieve chemistry. Sumanth cluelessly, Naina Ganguly also acts mechanically. Vennela jokes about Kishore Prabhas' marriage, Sang Chi, Christopher Nolan's movies and others, but none of them elicits laughter.
Despite having a modern storyline, the poor writing and sluggish narrative didn't help matters in any way. Forget restarting, it's better not to start watching it. "Malli Modalaindi" is essentially boring. The biggest problem is amateur direction.
